U.S. Army All-American Alumni Band Member Honored as Drum Major of Rose Parade
Recently, one of the U.S. Army All-American Alumni band members was selected as one of the Drum Majors of the Bands of America Honor Band during the 2013 Rose Parade. Tyler Waithers of Millersville University become one of only four drum majors in the prestigious Tournament of Roses parade in Pasadena, California.
Tyler played the bag pipes during the halftime show of the 2012 U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas. “Being a part of the Rose Parade was just an incredible feeling. It was glorious,” said Waithers. There were 299 band members and only 4 drum majors in the Honor Band. “I really enjoy being a drum major because it allows you to be there for the band and do whatever is needed to make everyone’s experience a great one,” added Waithers.
Tyler's future plans include teaching music at a college or university. He hopes to help out with the Rose Parade and the U.S. Army All-American bowl in the near future. Waithers continues his musical success at Millersville University in Pennsylvania and accredites a lot of his success to the people that influenced him throughout his life. Tyler is truly a superb musician and leader, and it shows with his accomplishments.
